Sputter targets are required as the starting material for various coating processes. For the production of high-quality coatings, the quality of the targets is an important criterion. Targets made of high-melting materials can be manufactured through powder metallurgy by pressing powders or powder mixtures and subsequent sintering. The structure, homogeneity and purity are specifically controllable. Sputter targets are needed as the starting material for various coating processes such as PVD, laser or ion beam techniques.

In PVD coating, metals and their alloys are used in their highly pure form as coating materials. Depending on the desired coating properties, materials such as titanium, aluminum, chromium, as well as zirconium and tungsten are used. The application range of these ultrathin layers applied in a vacuum includes wear protection, decorative coatings, glass and photovoltaic applications and semiconductor industry applications.
