Grinding

Service Center for Precision Grinding Parts

Grinding, or precision grinding, of titanium is an extremely accurate and advantageous alternative to milling, particularly in cases where high surface quality and precision are required. Grinding provides a decisive advantage by delivering not only a very fine surface structure but also meeting exact thickness and parallelism requirements.

With modern grinding techniques, titanium plates can be brought to the desired thickness and parallelism with an accuracy of up to 0.05 mm. This is especially valuable when the highest tolerances and uniform material thickness are critical. The grinding process allows precise adjustments and shapes to be achieved without affecting the material structure of titanium.

Another advantage of grinding is the ability to control the Ra value (surface roughness), which directly influences the surface quality of the titanium component. During grinding, the Ra value can be finely adjusted, resulting in a smooth and homogeneous surface. This is particularly important for titanium components used in areas where high surface quality is required, such as aerospace, medical technology or the automotive industry.

The grinding process leads to a finer and more uniform grain structure, improving the optical appearance of the titanium while maintaining its functional properties. Precise grinding ensures a strong and tight finish, which is not only aesthetically pleasing but also reduces wear and corrosion susceptibility.

Compared to milling, grinding titanium results in less material removal, preserving the workpiece strength. Grinding is also a less invasive technique, as it does not significantly heat the material, which could otherwise lead to deformations or cracks. This advantage is particularly critical when processing sensitive titanium alloys, such as those frequently used in medical technology.
